The BRHS Archive SmugMug collections are here to support books and magazine articles on railroad history. However, authors desiring photos, or other materials from the BRHS Archives for reproduction need to be aware of the different handling than ordering directly through SmugMug. Please read the instructions carefully before obtaining items for publication use.
Instructions for use in
BRHS Publications
After an article proposal is selected by the BRHS editor for publication, authors are encouraged to review our collections online. You need not buy anything nor order images. Simply note the image numbers that compliment your article for reference later. At the time of paste-up, the editor will contact the Archives for image(s) needed for the publication. If you wish to purchase for your personal use and reference that is fine, but those images will not be published or used.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE IN
PUBLICATIONS
OUTSIDE OF THE BRHS
Authors are encouraged to review our collections online. After images are selected and confirmed for publication use, contact the BRHS Archives at Archives@BurlingtonRoute.org for permission. Payment will be requested before scans are provided. It is recommended that editors participate in the process to ensure only images confirmed for use will be ordered.
Scans will only be delivered directly to the production entity that will place that image in the publication. Files will be free of watermark or logo monogram. Permission and citation requirements must be fully met. Two copies of the publication containing image(s) used must be sent to the BRHS upon completion. One for our Archive Library and one for fundraising to support our mission.
If authors desire a personal copy of image(s) for reference use, they may order prints or downloads through SmugMug at their own expense. These personal SmugMug scans cannot be re-distributed to editors or others, or used for publication. They are for personal private use only as outlined in this site.
